The venerable octogenarian Reverend Clay Evans, founder of Chicago’s historic Fellowship Baptist Church and his sister, noted choirmaster, Lou Della Evans Reid, both resemble the Energizer bunny these days maintaining a non-stop traveling schedule. Reverend Evans “the Godfather of preachers” began the month as one of the seven principal speakers at the Annual Good Friday Service held at the Cosmopolitan Community Church before boarding a plane crossing the country to conduct a three day revival. He says he travels more these days in retirement than he did when he was in full time pastorate. During the month of April, Sister Lou Della served as the guest clinician at Chicago Mass Choir’s Community Music Workshop while preparing for the annual Lou Della Evans Reid Traditional Gospel Choir Festival of Flowers to be held on April 25th at the Greater Harvest MB Church. While the Fellowship family prepares to celebrate Pastor Charles Jenkins’ 9th year anniversary on the third Sunday in May, plans are also being made to celebrate the birthdays of Reverend Evans (who turns 85 this year) and Lou Della (who turns 80) with a grand gala scheduled for July 12th at Christ Universal Temple.
